 5 Simple Food and
Whisky Pairings

Try something new this summer.

Are you a Scotch whisky lover but find it difficult to pair your favourite dram with food? Food pairings can help elevate the whisky tasting experience, opening up new flavours and delicious contrasts.

Read on to discover five simple food and whisky pairings from Royal Salute, for you to enjoy with friends and family this summer.

1. Dark chocolate

Pair your whisky with dark chocolate for a bittersweet flavour to bring out the sweet, dry oak notes of Royal Salute’s 21-Year-Old Signature Blend. We recommend pairing your whisky with a high-quality dark chocolate containing 70% cocoa solids or more.

2. Strawberries

Fruits and berries such as strawberries pair very well with light, floral whiskies like Royal Salute’s 21-Year-Old Signature Blend. The sweet strawberry flavour wonderfully complements the whisky’s delicate notes of vanilla and clove spice.

3. Almonds

In contrast to creamy cashews, roasted almonds have a more robust character and confine most of their sweetness to the finish. This means that almonds pair delightfully with whiskies with a lightly peated flavour profile, such as the 21-Year-Old Lost Blend.

4. Ginger biscuits

Ginger is a natural flavour enhancer, complementing the complex flavours found in Scotch whisky. Pair delicate ginger biscuits with the 21-Year-Old Malts Blend to savour warming, spicy notes of clove and banana crème brûlée.

5. Mature Cheddar

Cheddar may not be the most exotic cheese on the board, but it works beautifully with Royal Salute’s 21-Year-Old Signature Blend. The fruity, woody character of mature cheddar pairs wonderfully with the floral sweetness of Royal Salute.
